A free event marking Music Day takes place in Markfield Park this afternoon. The organisers of the national event are staging all the musicians who got in touch via the main Music Day website and asked for a place to play.
The lineup includes Dead Silence Syndicate Band, Hornman, Keyaki, Melody Nelson, Ice Cream Children, Mycal 1 Dread and more.
The music runs from 3pm until 9pm at the amphitheatre next to the Markfield Beam Engine and Museum.
In the words of the organisers Music Day is “also known as Fête de la Musique (or World Music Day) and originated in France in 1982. Since then the idea has spread across the globe with each event holding to the same set of principles: that the day is held on the mid-summer solstice and that all concerts and events are free to the public with a non-profit making objective. Typically this means that the music is brought out ONTO THE STREETS!”
