This Saturday Tottenham World Film Club will be screening “NO” (2013) an acclaimed Chilean comic drama

The film explores the 1988 marketing campaign that toppled Augusto Pinochet‘s 15 year rule. The military dictator had been forced to call a plebiscite on extending his presidency. Opposition leaders for the No campaign persuade a brash young advertising executive to spearhead their campaign.

This Oscar-nominated film was directed by Pablo Larrain and stars Gael Garcia Bernal.

Bursting with emotion and inspiration, you will stride from the film into an evening of wonderful Live Latin Music from Kanti Qena and Yuri Betancourt, as well as Latin hot food and cold drinks.

TWFC will also be screening two short films: Irma, an intimate musical portrait of Irma Gonzalez, the world champion of women’s professional wrestling, and our own second short doc, Mothers of Tottenham, by TWFC volunteer Rebecca McGlynn.

You can also now watch the short “taster” version of the first TWFC short documentary, High Road, if you missed it at our launch event in February.

The evening event is preceded by an animation workshop. It’ll be exploring ways of animating to sound and music to create an animated orchestra! As usual, all ages and backgrounds are welcome and no drawing experience is required – the workshops are experimental and interactive aiming to make animation accessible to everyone. Enjoy this great stop-motion animation the group created last time.

You can buy tickets on the door, but why not make sure by booking online for the evening screening event (£5) or the afternoon animation workshop (£5), or take advantage of our combi-ticket to do both for just £8.

Saturday 20th April
Animation workshop: 3pm – 6pm
Film Club screening: from 7pm
